Bordallo Pinheiro – Portuguese ceramics since 1884

Bordallo Pinheiro was founded in 1884 in Caldas da Rainha, Portugal, by Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro — an artist, caricaturist and ceramist who stands as one of the most original figures in nineteenth-century Portuguese culture. Deep inspiration from nature, outstanding craftsmanship and a distinctive visual identity: these are the qualities that have made the brand an integral part of Portugal's cultural and decorative heritage.

Plates, bowls, pitchers, vases and decorative panels take shape through ceramic manufacturing techniques handed down across generations, with brilliant glazes applied in the majolica tradition over naturalistic subjects — cabbages, frogs, sardines, swallows — that have become iconic symbols of the brand worldwide.

Every piece is the work of master craftsmen carrying a savoir-faire built over more than a century of ceramic production. The Caldas da Rainha factory is still operating today, preserving the original moulds created in the founder's time.
