Pomum Vista Alegre 38 cm Dome-Shaped Cake Stand

Description

Pomum Cake Stand: Glass-Dome Cake Stand from The Meaning Collection

With the Pomum cake stand from Vista Alegre’s The Meaning collection, every cake is showcased and presented at its best. The dessert seems to emerge from a small garden. This is no coincidence: this piece is the result of a collaboration between Vista Alegre and Bordallo Pinheiro, as part of The Meaning collection—a narrative woven from nature, memory, and Portuguese craftsmanship. The cake stand combines three materials—glass, porcelain, and ceramic—into a single object designed to be the grand finale of a meal, on display, waiting, resting on a tall sideboard next to the table set for an important event.

A dome that evokes a hidden garden

The dome, hand-blown and then hand-engraved, is decorated with a botanical motif of wisteria leaves that cascades from the top toward the rim, like suspended branches. The effect changes with the light: during the day, the design comes alive; in the evening, it becomes more subtle, casting only a light shadow on the cake beneath. It pairs well with the entire cabbage collection by Bordallo Pinheiro.

The sculptural pedestal: a tree trunk in glazed ceramic

Beneath the white porcelain plate, with its delicate green-gray rim, the pedestal takes the form of a tree trunk with roots, hand-sculpted and finished with a brilliant emerald-green glaze that feels almost glossy to the touch. It is a collection of details that make Pomum a story, almost an adventure in a secret garden.

The detail that makes all the difference: the apple-shaped knob

At the top of the dome, a small, dark green glass knob shaped like an apple completes the composition and subtly evokes the theme of the secret garden. It is a detail that is minimal in size but decisive in perception: it gives the piece a recognizable identity even from a distance, whether on a set table or on a shelf.

How to use it at the table, at home, and in the hospitality industry

Pomum was designed for the home, but its solid structure and striking visual impact also make it suitable for professional settings: high-end restaurants, hotels, and catering services, where a cake stand becomes part of the presentation of the meal. The base’s diameter, approximately 36.50 cm / 14.37 in, makes it suitable for standard-sized cakes or small pastry arrangements; and its total height, approximately 38.00 cm / 14.96 in, provides ample space to accommodate even multi-layered desserts.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Pomum Cake Stand

What is the capacity of the Pomum cake stand? Since it is not a container for liquids, the capacity refers to the usable space on the plate: approximately 36.50 cm / 14.37 in in diameter, sufficient for a standard-sized cake or arrangements of smaller pastries. Is it dishwasher-safe? No. To preserve the delicacy of the engraving on the glass and the brilliance of the green glaze on the pedestal over time, we recommend hand-washing with lukewarm water and a soft cloth. Is it also suitable for professional use, such as in hotels or restaurants? Yes. The ceramic base provides a stable foundation, and its striking design makes it ideal for buffets, dessert stations, and high-end catering services, as well as for everyday use at home.
