Federico De Majo
Federico de Majo is a leading figure in contemporary design, a creative entrepreneur and founder of the brand Zafferano Tableware, established in 2001 with the goal of combining glass with tasting and high-quality objects.
Born in Venice, De Majo grew up immersed in the art of glass in his family’s furnace in Murano, an experience that inspired his passion for material, color, and form.
Following the premature death of his father, he took over the family business with his brother and collaborated with prominent Venetian artists such as Vedova, Licata, and Music.
After working as a consultant for the Cassina group, he founded Zafferano with the desire to apply his glassmaking experience to the culture of wine, the table, and Italian design. Among his most famous creations are the glasses from the Esperienze collections, selected for exhibition at the Italian Pavilion at the Shanghai Expo, and the Ultralight line of ultra-light glasses, now featured in Michelin-starred restaurants worldwide.
Since 2005, he has also expanded his commitment to the lighting sector by creating Ailati Lights, now integrated into Zafferano Bespoke Glass Lighting, a line dedicated to bespoke lighting projects and artistic glass installations.
Collaborations and Recognitions
Among his professional collaborations in the tableware world, de Majo created a custom glass for the brewery Pedavena. The design emphasizes the aromas and quality of the product, with a tulip-shaped form specifically designed for aromatic beers. The glass is made of superior sonorous glass, combining elegance and functionality typical of the Zafferano style.
