How to make your home's entrance beautiful?

Choosing Materials for Cookware

When a visitor or a guest arrives, the first impression is fundamental, even in one’s own home. But it is also for ourselves; when we return, there is always someone to welcome us with warmth: our beautiful little home! And where do we give the first impression? In the setting that constitutes the entrance of the home, so let’s see…

How to make the home entrance beautiful with small touches that make a great difference

A dark and narrow environment is certainly not attractive to anyone. Who likes to slip into narrow and poorly lit alleys? It makes one feel oppressed and unsafe. If, upon crossing the threshold, we can only offer a hallway by necessity, let’s try to improve it through the wise use of a fundamental component of our lives: light.

Lighting and atmosphere

Choose light bulbs that release a beautiful warm light to immediately create a feeling of heat and coziness. In the shop, look on the packaging for the number that ends in “K”. It indicates the Kelvin degrees; the lower the number, the warmer the light. Choose those ranging from 2700k to 3000k. Cold lights, tending towards white, make the atmosphere feel precisely cold. Like an office.

Do not use a single ceiling light for the entire environment. Especially if it is a long hallway or a large entrance. Pair a table lamp on a small table or a console and wall lamps or sconces to illuminate the whole environment. If the electrical system allows it, make it so they can be turned on separately but from a single switch. If it is not possible to install a ceiling light, increase the number of wall lamps or add a floor lamp. It is also possible to use LED strips, which, however, should not be seen but rather have their presence felt by exhibiting a soft glow, almost hidden; otherwise, you risk a circus effect.

Whether the entrance is small or large, positioning a beautiful mirror also helps a lot because it reflects light, amplifies spaces, and is always useful for a final look check before going out. It doesn’t necessarily have to be rectangular; you can even dare with round or irregular shapes if the mirror has character.

Furniture: aesthetic but functional

Not suffocating a room that is generally of small dimensions is imperative, but neither is emptying it. Paradoxically, minimalism is more difficult to achieve if one is not an expert.

Small table or console: aesthetic to match the house, but functional for placing keys or coins or small objects when returning. A bench or a chair are perfect. You enter, you have to take off your coat, but we have the bag (Mary Poppins’ bag, editor’s note) or the grocery bag. A support at arm height is very convenient. Matching the style of the other rooms would also be advisable here. Since there are coats to take off or scarves, it is appropriate to put them away in a built-in wardrobe to hide them and limit clutter. The wardrobe allows for a clothes hanger for every guest without piling them on top of each other. In case the option is not available, we can take advantage of the space behind the entrance door with wall-mounted or floor hangers. You can find designer ones at affordable prices or even from more prestigious brands like the Sciangai model by Zanotta.

Colors and decorations

A rug, a wall with tropical leaf wallpaper, a large painting or print, and a plant if space and light allow.

The rug should be well-proportioned. Avoid sizes that force the rug against the walls. Let’s leave a little breathing room. Let’s choose colors that match the floor and the walls. Be patient if shoes might be dirty when entering, as rugs can be washed too. Maybe not white, but a thick rope color can often work well. Painting just a single wall with a contrasting color immediately gives character, as does a large floor-to-ceiling print with a subject. Even a wallpaper, always only on one side, yields surprising results. There are thousands of them online, very colorful or with floral themes, even with relief effects. You can truly go wild.
Ecco la traduzione in inglese del testo, mantenendo la formattazione in grassetto dell’originale:

Regarding the plant, if the environment is very large, you can opt for a floor pot in a corner with some ferns or, in enormous spaces, even a banana tree. If the environment is more contained, choose species that take up less space. It is enough to ask the florist for advice on light and water. If you don’t have a green thumb, choose the pothos, which is substantially immortal.

Order

Order is a self-fueling mental form. If you see things in order, you keep them in order. If you keep things in order, you feel in order. Even and perhaps especially at the entrance, a beautiful tidy space helps. Let’s therefore avoid shelves with shoes and slippers in sight. If as soon as we enter we want to get rid of them immediately, let’s position a low cabinet in which to insert the bare minimum for the change. If the cabinet also had a drawer, we could position keys or leashes ready for use but hidden. If then we force guests to take off their well then… no, this is another story and we will talk about it in an article dedicated to bon-ton!
